Powerized is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Nick Holleman (Vicious Rumors). Influenced by the likes of Edguy, Powerwolf and Avantasia, these five musicians from Breda (NL) bring you prog/power metal with intense clean vocals and an overwhelming melodic metal sound. They have just released their first single "Where Worlds Meet The Eye" (you can listen it below) and we talked with Nick about this and other things.

Rock Bottom: You've just released the awesome single "Where Worlds Meet The Eye" with Powerized, what can you tell us about the song and the composing and recording process of it?
Nick Holleman: It’s been a long, but very satisfying process. Writing the song was a lot of fun. I only start writing when I am able to hear the whole song in my head. And than it’s very satisfying to work this out and finally being able to hear it for real haha. And to work on all the different instruments and the orchestra. We recorded the song a while ago already with Djuri Boot. After finishing all parts, we started searching for the right guy to mix the song and that took us a while. I was really looking for a certain sound, a guy who could take the song to the next level and make it come to life. Eventually we found the guy, Matt Smith of Theocracy. I still think it’s amazing how he finished our product and made it sound like this. Also the artwork perfectly matches the meaning and the story of the song, which is a very important element in our songs. In short it’s about a guy who can finally get his mind off his pain by looking into a painting and getting distracted from his life. During the story he gets more obsessed by the painting and starts to see more details of the story being told inside the painting. Eventually finding out it’s not a painting he is looking at, but a mirror. “I painted my reflection just to hide what I won’t be” is the sentence he realizes this. All elements should match with each other to create this atmosphere and I think we achieved that and hopefully others will do too :)

Rock Bottom: Will be there an full-length Powerized's album in the near future?
Nick Holleman: Definitely, we hope the response to this first single “Where Worlds Meet the Eye” will be good and we look forward to build upon that. A lot of the material has been written for the full-length already, so it will definitely come in the near future. But I can’t tell you when, yet.

Rock Bottom: "Where Worlds Meet The Eye" is avaiable on Powerized's website for free download, what is your opinion about the Internet and all the illegal downloads?
Nick Holleman: I think it’s something of this era. Of course, for the musician, it’s in some way unfortunate, but times have changed. Right now you have to have a good album to get people to the show. It used to be the other way around. You would go on tour to promote the new record. So it’s not really a very bad thing, it’s just different. If it works this way right now, it’s only a good thing to have as many people as possible to hear the song. You can’t stop it anyway and it’s still good promotion to get people to see your shows. And that’s what we want and love of course ;)

Rock Bottom: In 2013 Powerized have released an EP called "My Creed", with four killer songs. Was it difficult to record it as a young band? And how can the fans get a copy of it?
Nick Holleman: Actually, not really. We were all very excited to do this and were not really thinking about any setbacks or anything haha. Just musicians eager to get the material recorded. We only have a few hard copies left; almost everything is sold already, even after a second press. It is however still available on iTunes and Spotify (talking about your previous question haha). But if fans really want to have a hard copy, we still sell them at our live shows (limited) and it’s always possible to send us an email (info@powerized.net) or check our website (www.powerized.net) and we hope to help them out!

Rock Bottom: Last year you toured Europe for first time with Powerized, what was the fans reaction? Do you have plans to tour any other places?
Nick Holleman: It was an amazing experience and the crowd’s response was really good. We had a lot of fun together and enjoyed the time on the road and the gigs each night and see the people enjoying our music, just like us! We will go on tour again in Europe in July of this year, this time along with Death Dealer (with members of Cage and ex-Manowar), and a couple of shows with Flotsam & Jetsam. We would love to tour everywhere we can and play us much as we can. I would love to go to South America with Powerized too, our music seems to be very much appreciated and the crowd’s response was overwhelming when I played there with Vicious Rumors. So that’s definitely a thing that will happen one day! We just need a little bit of help haha.

Rock Bottom: Alongside with Powerized you are the singer in Vicious Rumors and Methusalem, how do you manage the time between the three bands?
Nick Holleman: It’s not that hard actually. All bands are aware I’m singing in multiple bands so I’m very clear to them about it. As soon as something is being confirmed with a band, I’ll let the guys know and we work our way around it. Especially for tours it’s not a very big issue, as tours are arranged months before. So that makes it possible to plan things well.

Rock Bottom: ¿Cómo te uniste a Vicious Rumors?

Rock Bottom: How did you join Vicious Rumors?
Nick Holleman: That’s a funny story. A great friend of mine, Toine (ex-Martyr), helped me out with this one by recommending me to Geoff Thorpe of Vicious Rumors. He saw a YouTube video of me performing with Powerized in 013 in Tilburg, with the song Master of Deceit. Right after hearing that one, he gave me a call if I was able and willing to join them on their upcoming tour and play 30 shows in the US, all across the country. Which I did of course haha. After that I became a full member.

Rock Bottom: What plans do you have for the future?
Nick Holleman: A lot of plans luckily! As I mentioned before, Powerized will go on tour in July. We can’t wait to see where this single “Where Worlds Meet the Eye” will get us and we hope it gives us the opportunity to record and release our first full-length. In the meantime I will finalize the songs for the record and we will play more shows and work on the road, keep improving ourselves and work towards the big picture we have in mind. I will also be part in a couple of other projects, some metal operas, which you will hear more about soon. Also Methusalem and Vicious Rumors are recording a full-length and are planning several tours already, so great things ahead and a lot of work to be done! But again, it’s a lot of fun! The responses to the single so far (I think the single is out 24 hours now) are overwhelming from both fans and friends. That combined with being able to make music every day with Powerized, to play with great musicians and friends is just an amazing thing. We love what we do and we want to show that to the people. They make it all worth it!
